Sisters. Sisters.

My sister, Marnie, and I are just a year and six days apart.
My Birthday? August 27. Hers? September 2.

To be honest, I was a really mean older sister to her.
I wouldn't let her be friends with my friends.
I wouldn't let her borrow my clothes.
I often said mean things to her.
I turned her away when she was nice to me... thinking she was annoying.
I thought she was trying to bother me, but little did I know.
If I could do it all over, I would.
We didn't actually become real friends until I moved away to attend college.

We've now been "friends" for 7 years, and I'm so thankful.
Last year, Marnie cried while she toasted me at an event.
The things she said were so sweet.
So beautiful.
She said she always wanted to be like me.
She always looked up to me.
She always thought I was the perfect older sister.
It made me so proud to be her older sister.

I'm so blessed to have a sister like mine.

In just 49 days, my little sister is going to be married to the man of her dreams.
I can't wait to toast her, as her sister and maid of honor, on that special day.

In fact... she says I have to write out my toast...
Hey sister, are you sure I can't just use this?

Kidding.

This reminds me of how me and my older sister used to be! We are 15 months apart and we acted the same way. When we had friends over, we weren't allowed to talk or play with them. We didn't like to share our toys. We were mean. She always said I was adopted from China. :( It wasn't until my parents split up that brought us closer and then...we also grew apart again due to medical reasons. But now she will be getting married next year [not in the states] and you are so much more positive about your sister and I loved this post. :) If you ever want another sister, I've got four! haha.

I was able to be my older sister's maid of honor. That was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Especially since I got to put in my speech that my sister had persuaded me with her line, "I'm not going to get married." ;)

Sisters are the very best! I think the relationships you have with you sisters are even MORE important as we are adults, seriously!

This is really sweet Aunie! I have two sisters and I cannot WAIT for us to get married! I was always the nice younger sister though, they were the mean older ones haha! It's great that your friendship with your sister just gets better as you get older. Congrats to Marnie!

My sister would never admit this but she was the mean older sister too! She never wanted me around so when she started wanting to be friends a few years ago it was totally weird!!

aw that's sweet. I was the same way to my middle sister..but maybe worse? :( If she came to a party I would make sure she left because "she didn't need to be there, too young to be doing that" is what I often said. I was so mean :( And yes if I could go back and do it all over again I would too. Good luck on your speech! :)

This is so sweet! It really is funny how family dynamics can change- and often for the better- when the containment issue changes! My oldest sister, who's eleven years older than me, was always the second "adult" in our house as I grew up. After she moved out, got married, moved to MI, we only talked periodically (I was 13 when that happened). They moved back to GA when I was 16, and suddenly she became a friend- a smarter, sarcastic, smack-me-in-the-head when I was stupid friend. I feel like she's been two entirely different people in my life- but two people who each mean a whole lot to me!!
Sounds like a great toast to me! Post/toast/schmost, right?!?! :)
