Curl Your Hair Without Heat

As you may, or may not know,
I have another blog called Bye Bye Beehive
where I post tons of hairstyles and basically just
talk about...
HAIR.

Last week, I posted a style about how to curl your hair without heat.
It got such a great response that I wanted to share it with you...

As a disclaimer, my hair is fine and has normal texture.
It's naturally very straight.
It tends to do what I want it to do and holds curl very well...
with that being said—
Enjoy!

Last week, I saw a post on my friend Kristen's blog
(Confessions of a Graphic Design Student).
She mentioned how she vintage-style curled her hair with a headband...
with NO heat.
Needless to say, I had to try it.

I began by putting a fairly tight elastic headband over my slightly damp hair.
I grabbed pieces of my hair and tucked them around the headband,
continuing until I reached the back of my head.
It's really similar to the Holiday Updo that I did in December.
When I reached the back, I simply twisted that hair around and around
the headband until it was all tucked in.

Daniel said I looked like Friar Tuck.
So this is the "Friar Tuck Method" now and forever in my eyes.

I should also add that in order to prevent the headband from slipping
and my hair falling out,
I also wrapped a silk scarf over my head,
like I did in this post.
I slept in my headband overnight.

In the morning, I pulled the headband out of my hair and was
SHOCKED at the curls I got.
Wowza, baby!

They stayed like that almost all day.
Of course they fell out a bit... but I didn't mind.

UPDATE // And just in case you'd like to see how to do this,
I included my very own video tutorial (the original inspiration tutorial can be found here).
Enjoy!

Oh... and just last night after my shower,
I mentioned to Daniel that I was going to "Friar Tuck" my hair again.
His reaction was so adorable, and clearly showed that he found
that sleep-in style NOT attractive.
I opted for two French braids instead.
Sexy.

Little Mister Dobby

I may not have babies,
or cute puppies
or even fuzzy kittens.
But I am a mama to a bearded dragon.
His name is Dobby.
Yes, like the house elf from Hogwarts.
And despite his spikes, claws, and scales— he is very cuddly.
He's growing like a champ.

December 4, 2011
Just a little baby! His body was so thin and he had hardly any beard.

December 24, 2011
3 weeks later. Getting bigger! Notice how small he is in my hand. And yes... that's a chihuahua named Mister Oso who is very curious about Mister Dobby!

December 28, 2011
His beard is beginning to form!

January, 2011
Sitting like a proper boy at his perch. The beard is coming in!

February 11, 2011
2 months after I got him. Look how much bigger he is in my hand!
And that is my son, Dobby.
a.k.a. Sir Dobson.
a.k.a. the best lizard EVERRR.

Happy 1/2 Birthday to Me!

// Sweater: Francesca's // Dress: Francesca's // Tights: Burlington Coat Factory // Boots: Thrifted //

It's my Half Birthday.
I've never celebrated a Half Birthday before.

I was just sitting at my computer, checking out my calendar...
and realized,
HEY! It's the 27th, my favorite day of the month... Wait,
it's February 27th—My Half Birthday!

Therefore, I am officially in Birthday mode.
Daniel, when I come home this evening,
if you'd just be so nice as to have a gluten-free cake
and lactose free sorbet waiting for me... that would be wonderful—
and I promise I'll act completely surprised.

Oh— and happy Shabby Apple Dress giveaway winner day to:

The Weekend Outfit

// Jacket: Express // Top: Express // Pants: Macy's // Necklace: Shabby Apple (won in a giveaway!!!) // Shoes: Rocket Dog //

On the weekends, I love putting on outfits that are comfortable/stylish (usually)/and still make a statement. This outfit was just that.

The pants weren't too tight, the top allowed for my tum-tum to expand as I ate (which I do often) and the shoes are so light and comfortable, surprisingly. Sigh— I may have to wear this outfit again this weekend.

Lately, I feel like I LIVE for the weekends. It's my time to relax, enjoy life, and get caught up on bloggie emails.

Have a happy weekend! ♥

Thursday 13: The Last 13 Things I...

The Last 13 Things

Link up TODAY Thursday, February 23 for a combination of
Aunie Sauce's "Thursday 13" and The Life of the Wife's "The Last Thing I..."
We want to know 13 of the last things you did.
The last thing you ate? The last thing you thought?
LET US KNOW!
For another example of what we're talking about,
check out this POST or this POST!
xoxo

The Last 13 Things I ...

1. Ate: A gluten free Caramel Apple breakfast bar

2. Listened to: "Friday, I'm in Love" by Draden Mitchell — it's on a reggae/love CD Daniel made for me.

3. Watched: The River, Episode 4

4. Purchased: Purple Michael Kors glasses... since I now have an astigmatism. Get used to seeing me in glasses!

5. Wore: A brown silky painter's frock, from Francesca's, tucked into some red Rocks & Indigo skinnies, from TJ Maxx, with brown Rocket Dog clogs

6. Thought: Hmm... maybe I should take a photo of that outfit and put it with this post... nahhh. **Edit** After thinking it... I knew I needed to put one in because someone was going to ask for it... so here it is. And yes... I'm a pro, so pro that I meant to off-center it...

7. Drank: Agua!!

8. Wanted to buy: 3 Catbird gold rings, the A, the D and the ♥

9. Prayed for: Myself! Will you please pray that I will be given an opportunity if it is right for me?... (and that's all I can tell you at this point in time, the rest will come later if it happens!).

10. Painted on my nails: Mardi Gras themed green nails!

11. Craved: Jumbo popcorn chicken from Sonic... and I'm not even sure if it's good... but it sounds good.

12. Wished for: The weekend! Surprising my dude and snuggling in bed this morning was so warm and cozy... I just wanted to stay there all day!

13. Laughed at: This conversation, poking fun at Daniel, in response to this video:
Now, go visit The Life of the Wife to see her 13 things!
Then tell us... what are the LAST 13 THINGS you did?
