Throwback

Just for fun, here's a throwback video from my days at Eagle High School when we won the 2005 State Championships in cheerleading. It's blurry, but see if you can spot me... I'm the super-blonde wearing the white knee brace (I shouldn't be too hard to spot). My sister was in this, too! She's got a super-long brown ponytail.

The photos below are fun to look back on, as well. The top photo was our close group of girlfriends, minus one or two. In the bottom photo, I'm in the middle and my sister is on the far left.

Oh, high school. Those were the days... "Go Eagle Go, YEAH!"

($1,380 raised overall).
158-days until I almost quit.
130 posts.
100 bobby pins.
59 hairstyles.
25 braids.
20 buns.
12 monthly updates.
7 big-hair withdrawals.
5 rules.
4 trims.
4 hair measurements.
3-minutes to curl your hair without heat.
(And 3 of my own failed attempts to record my version of the Friar Tuck).
2 gray hairs.

 One mission.
One girl.
One entire year...
zero regret.

The BIG HAIR BEREAVEMENT is over.

But don't worry, Bye Bye Beehive isn't going anywhere.
Neither are these hairstyles.
Plus, I just cut mini-bangs.
I have to show you how to style those, right?
Right.

Twists to a Bun

My big hair project, Bye Bye Beehive, is over in
6 days.
Six days.

6-days until I can use a blow dryer.
6-days until I don't have to go to work with a wet mop of hair everyday.
6-days until I probably won't go back to the crazy teasing, hair spraying, and highlighting
I was so attached to before.

I think the coolest part about this year-long project
is all that I've learned about myself.
You'll hear more about it in... 6 days.

Anyway—one of my favorite things to add a little spunk to a 2nd-day hair style
is to create a couple of twists or braids and secure your hair into a messy bun.
It's adds texture, it catches the eye, and it totally hides the fact
that your hair is dirty major (with some dry shampoo, of course).

Because sometimes, just sometimes, that extra 10 (or 40) minutes of sleep
is just oh-so worth-it.

The 48-Hour Hug

Well, we got the news.
Daniel leaves Sunday at 11:30 am.

Needless to say, until then I will not be answering emails,
not be doing things that are "all about me,"
and not wasting a second on things that aren't involving him...
well, until I'm off work today, anyway.

Plus, I feel like I haven't had a chance to spend any time with Daniel this week.
Last week Daniel suffered through a horrible cold—this week I got it,
and Wednesday and Thursday were spent with me battling sickness while at work.
A non-stop 2-day fever, chills, sore throat and incredibly stuffy/runny nose.
Gross.

But Daniel was a gem.
As soon as I got home each day,
he rubbed my back, let me fall asleep in his lap while he cradled my head,
brought me medicine and tucked me into my bed last night.
It was the sweetest thing.

Today I feel 76% better, and I'm ready to enjoy our last weekend together.
I know the 6-weeks he will be gone isn't a long time,
but amidst wedding planning and missing the guy I love,
it will feel like a long time.

Here's to 48-hours of snuggling, packing, holding hands, and nose-kisses.

Beauty Week Twisted Pony

If you guys follow me on Twitter, you know that I've been talking a lot about
Beauty Week
all week!

Today, I get to share with you a lovely hair tutorial for a twisted pony.
It's really similar to this twisted side pony that I did.

Ready for the steps?
  1. I was going on second-day hair that day, so I bobby pinned my front pieces up into a bump.
  2. Just like in the twisted side pony, I gathered a small section of hair at the nape of my neck and secured it in a low ponytail with a clear elastic band.
  3. Working from the bottom to the top with the loose hair, I gathered small sections and began twisting them backwards and pinning them around the clear elastic band.
  4. I would twist and pin a small section from the right, and then switch it and twist and pin a section from the left.
  5. You don't have to twist the pieces back, but as you can see in the top right photo, it gives the hair some cool definition.
  6. Try to hide the bobby pins. If you can't, it's OK!
  7. Once it was all pinned, I separated and tugged on a couple pieces to give my hair a bit more volume and texture.
  8. Finish with a light veil of hairspray!
I'd love to see you try this look! If you do, make sure to tweet or instagram me a photo with the hashtag #twistedpony!

Marnie♥Andy

I thought I'd show you some of my favorite shots from my sister's wedding.
She and her husband just got back from their 10-day trip to Maui.
Jelly-face, jelly-face, jelly-face (jealous).

Don't worry,
I'm not leaving you guys in the dust about our wedding...
we just don't know details quite yet.
But you can bet that when we do,
you will know!

Oh—and Marnie and Andy?
First comes love,
then comes marriage...
and you know the rest *wink-wink*
♥

PS> Bye Bye Beehive is over in less than 30 days...
what do you guys think...
blonder or my sis's color in the 4th photo?
Decisions decisions.

Going to the Chapel...

... Actually, we're going to a winery.
The big day is tomorrow and I couldn't be more honored
to share this special day with my sister and her fiancè.

I wish they would also let me share their trip to Maui
that they'll be heading off to on Monday.
Those stinkers.

But hey, Daniel and I are next right? ♥

Want Vs. Need

Top: Runway Fashion Exchange // Pants: TJ Maxx // Sandals: Target // Earrings: Premier Design // Bracelets and Ring: c/o Payton Woodcraft

It seems so often lately that I'm finding myself caught up in the small things.
I feel like all I'm saying is "I need, I need, I need."

I need a DLSR camera. So badly.
I need to learn photoshop.
I need to answer these emails.
I need to go here, or go there.
I need to get married.
I need to get this all done.

But really?
They're all just wants.
Yes, I want a new camera.
I want to answer my emails.
I really want to get married.
I want to get everything done.
But I don't need any of it.

What do I need?
A little bit of food, a little bit of sleep, a little bit of water,
a few pieces of clothing, a shelter over my head, a little bit of money
and lots and lots of love.

Those 7 things are enough.
I could be a happy person with all of that.

And where's the DSLR camera, the emails, the go-go-go in all of that?
Not there.
Because I don't need it.

It's so wonderful to sit back and think about
all the things that really make a difference in my life.
Daniel.
Faith.
Family.
Love.

This weekend, Daniel is whisking me away to McCall, Idaho
for a little birthday weekend celebration.
As you remember, my sister is getting married next week,
it's her birthday next Sunday, and it's also my birthday this upcoming Monday.
So this weekend I'll be getting some much-needed R&R.

Take a moment to think about your wants and needs.
Sometimes we may want to go, go, go,
when all we need is just a nice relaxing moment at home with the dogs.

5-Minute Eyes

I. Love. Makeup.

Which is funny, because this is definitely my first makeup tutorial EVER on Aunie Sauce. Now, if you really know me, you also know that I have 29 eye makeup how-to tutorials on my other blog LastLash, but that's neither here nor there. All I want to say is that makeup is kind of my thing, and I really enjoy doing it.

That being said, let's get into today's 5-minute eyes. This is my go-to look. I use one powder, an eyebrow shadow, 1 palette, 1 eyeliner and 1 mascara. If you get good at it, you can have it down in 5-minutes without a problem. And... if you don't get it in 5-minutes the first time, don't be discouraged! The liner takes lots of practice.

My sister was sweet enough to let me capture this tutorial while I did her eye makeup for a wedding back in July. This tutorial comes at the perfect time because I just did this to my eyes this morning for a wedding that I'll be attending this evening! Oh, and don't miss tonight's wedding hair here!

As a preface: the palette I use is a special-edition Sephora Beauty Insider 500-point palette from Lancôme. I was really bummed when I found out that this palette wasn't for resale. I want to give this palette as a gift for all my friends who are brides because the colors are so lovely. There's a frosty pink, a matte mauve, a matte white and a matte gray. It's so flattering on everyone. It would probably compare closest to this palette (in Innocence Couture) from Lancôme that Sephora sells now.

Ready for it? I'll take you through it step by step.

1. Begin with bare, clean eyes.
2. Apply a primer to your eyelids (I also apply to my eyebrows). The primer I use is Make Up For Ever HD Microperfecting Primer in 7 (it's pink!). It's actually a face primer, but I find it works on my eyes better than anything! Be careful though, if you sweat (I do everyday at the gym), it does come off. Not waterproof at all. Think: pink sweat... interesting.
3. Fill in your brows with brow powder. This will really help define the eyes. I use Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Ash Blonde.

4. Even if you've never filled in your brows before, give it a chance! It doesn't have to be dark. Look at what a difference it makes!
5. Shadow in the entire lid with the frosty pink shadow (or lighter frost color in your palette). I'm not a frost fan, so that's why I only use it as a base.
6. Use the white matte shadow (or a light matte color) to highlight the inner corner of your eyes. This will really make the makeup pop and brighten your inside corners of your eyes.

7. Use the matte mauve (or a matte medium color) to shadow in the outer-V of your eye. If you want to add the dark gray matte (or a darker matte) to the crease to make it even smokier, that is OK, too. I kept it pretty natural for us this time. I use the dark shadow in the crease if I'm going out on the town (which is rare). You can also highlight your brow bone with a white frosty shadow as well. I used Sephora's Colorful Mono No. 23 in Aspen Summit.
8. Line the eye! I use Physician's Formula Eyebooster Felt Liner. This is the best stuff. It's so easy to make a cat-eye with this.
9. To learn a cat-eye winged look, click this link. I had no "eye-dea" how to do this until I learned from the pro, Miss Lauren Conrad. You basically draw a simple line at the base of your lashes, draw a small line, like a check mark, toward the edge of your eyebrow. Then, you go back and fill in the "V" part of the check mark. Is that confusing? Click that link above and see it for yourself!

10. Isn't that finished cat-eye awesome? I don't like to do it too extreme, because then all you see is the liner... and let's be honest, there is such a thing as too much.
11. To finish, apply 2 (or 3) coats of mascara. For my sister, we used Covergirl LashBlast Volume. It's our favorite mascara.

So... 5-minute eyes. Will you give them a try? And does my sister have the most beautiful eyes or what? She's going to rock this look on her own wedding day (22 days, Marn!).

The final look:
