Thanksgiving

I feel like every day is Thanksgiving on this blog. I am always feeling thankful for something... so today I'll just share 13 of the things I'm thankful for at this moment.

I'm thankful for...
  1. Daniel. I can't say it enough. Sunday is our one-year anniversary (already!) and we have a little weekend getaway planned. He is the most supportive, encouraging, uplifting man. I'm a lucky woman.
  2. My family & Daniel's family. I couldn't do it without them.
  3. Our home.
  4. Heat... we woke up this morning and our thermostat is dead. It's 27 degrees in Meridian and our house is getting colder and colder by the minute. Of course this happens on a holiday, right? So at the moment, I'm sitting bundled in front of the computer typing this with frigid fingers.
  5. Green bean casserole. Looking forward to enjoying that this evening!
  6. Time spent with my sister! She came to town for a big gala with my mom, and we got to do a girl's night last night. So wonderful.
  7. 24-hour gyms. We'll be on the way to ours on the Air Guard base here soon!
  8. Prayer.
  9. Answers to prayers!
  10. Open doors.
  11. Days off from work.
  12. Love & friendship (and new, growing friendships—Andi, that's you!)
  13. This coming Monday, so I can share what the heck has been going on in my life!
Happy Thanksgiving, friends. I'm especially thankful for all of you. ♥

13 things about my husband
13 things about my husband
13 things about my husband
13 things about my husband
13 things about my husband

If you've been reading my blog for long, you may feel like you know me pretty well. I'm very open & candid and tell it like it is, sometimes even saying more than is necessary... but hey, that's me. One person who we don't see around here too often is my amazing husband, Daniel, so today I'm sharing 13 little things about him.

Daniel...
  • Goes by: Daniel, Dan & Dano
  • Works: As a recruiter for the Idaho Air National Guard
  • Has lived: Phoenix, Arizona // Cheyenne, Wyoming // Boise, Idaho
  • Has visited: 11 different countries with the Air National Guard: Mexico, Canada, Scotland, England, Ireland, Luxembourg, Germany, Italy, Spain (also the Canary Islands), Algeria, and Mali
  • Wears: Simple tees, jeans and sneakers. Always.
  • Eats: Steak, cereal, Chips Ahoy cookies, and a good swirl soft-serve are his favorites
  • Watches: Football, House Hunters, Discovery Channel shows & good action movies
  • Prays for: Health for his family
  • Isn't a fan of: Nagging (this one's all me), big hair & bad drivers
  • Wants: A basset puppy... no way, Josè!
  • Plays: Words With Friends and Scramble. He always wins! He also never turns down invites to play flag football, softball or basketball... he is amazing at basketball
  • Enjoys: Lifting at the gym, having a backyard BBQ at the grill, building things (like sheds/decks) & landscaping
  • Loves: His family (brothers Ian & Adam and his father Dan pictured in the last photo), his two basset hounds Lucy & Abbey, and me—of course!

What are 13 things about your husband or significant other? Link your post back here in the comments if you take on this "husband tag." ♥

On My Mind...

Whidbey Island
  1. We've taken a few vacations this summer (Palm Desert, McCall, Washington, McCall) but the picture taken above on Whidbey Island in Washington makes me want to go back to the beach again. And I don't care what beach. I just want to take a vacation!
  2. I'm fairly certain that training for the City of Trees Marathon in October is the craziest best decision I've made in a long time.
  3. I don't think I'll ever go back to being a blonde
  4. The book The Stranger Beside Me (the true story about Ted Bundy) is the craziest book I've ever read. It's fascinating.
  5. I would really love to sleep in. Just once. My running is ruining that!
  6. Daniel, a self-proclaimed "not a flower-giving kind of guy" brought me flowers at work this week. Some of the ladies in my office gave him a bit of a ribbing, thinking he'd "done something wrong." That's so funny to me... can't we just give flowers to say "I love you" anymore?
  7. Speaking of which, I've always been a "not a flower-receiving" kind of person... but I actually really appreciated the "just because" sentiment.
  8. My mom emailed me this video about the new look of social media, and it blew my mind. I'm a little overwhelmed with it lately, despite the fact that I have made it a personal side-business.
  9. Trust... once it's broken, how do you rebuild it?
  10. The mornings are getting darker here in Boise, and today I was a bit nervous during my early-morning pitch-black run. I jumped as I came around a corner and mistook a huge bush for a person. I'm totally afraid of the dark.
  11. I NEED to spend more time reading my Bible.
  12. Topping my wish lists at the moment are getting a facial and laser hair removal for my legs... oh what a treat those would be!
  13. Life is beautiful. It truly is. I'm very, very thankful for each moment these days.

Things You May Not Know...

floral top and jean jacket

Things you may not know about me:
  1. My name is pronounced Ana-Lisa, not Anne-Elise. My nickname is pronounced Ah-nee (like the fancy aunty, without the "t"), not Annie. I get called "Annie" all. the. time.
  2. I go to the gym (or run, bike or walk) 7-days a week.
  3. I watch one—and only one—TV show a week, Castle. If it weren't for football season, we'd cancel cable.
  4. I have 2 tattoos.
  5. I'm a super-perfectionist about my nails. They have to be squarely filed and hangnail free at all times. I don't cry over broken nails... but I sure do fix them right away.
  6. I have tried more mascara than any other makeup product. At one point, I had over 40 different tubes.
  7. A bad eyelash day is way worse than a bad hair day.
  8. Every single time I shave my legs, I get razor burn. It's awful... I've tried everything. I have always been jealous of people who have silky-smooth, hardly-hairy legs. That probably sounds really dumb... but it's something I deal with daily.
  9. I have to be really careful around alcohol because of my family history... so I usually try to avoid it, though nothing tastes better than a frozen salted margarita while sitting on a restaurant patio on a hot day.
  10. I hardly, hardly wear heels, and am considering donating every pair I own (all 6 or so of them).
  11. A Carmel Apple Crisp ice cream cone from our local ice cream shop Delsa's is like eating a sugar cone of heaven.
  12. Also, I don't eat ice cream in a cup when we go out (has to be a cone), but I will eat it in a bowl at home.
  13. At first, I never wanted children (ever, ever, ever). Then, I told myself that if I did have kids, I would like to have my first when I was 27. I'll be 27 in 3-months... and yeah...
... that's probably enough about me for today. What's something people might not know about you?

Rainy Day Reads

blogroll

It's Thursday—that means it's time for Thursday 13—but this week I'm doing it a little different. Today I'm sharing 13 blogs on my daily reads list—and since they say "April showers bring May flowers"—if you have some time to spend indoors this month, this little reading list may bring you some enjoyment. I am subscribed to 100+ blogs on my reader, so this is just a few that are found on my daily—and rainy—reads list!
  1. KV's Confessions: I consider Kristen my best blogging friend!
  2. Gal Meets Glam: I love Julia's photos and her super-simple layout.
  3. Leopard and Lavender: Kelli and I used to work together, and then she followed her heart straight to San Francisco! She is a real-life friend, and a lovely one at that.
  4. Fash Boulevard: Anna has had an unreal rise in the fashion world (she won a contest on Lauren Conrad's blog), and I really look up to this girl!
  5. From My Grey Desk: Lauren is a self-proclaimed crazy-cat-lady (and I really dislike cats), but she wins me over with her smile and candid approach. She dresses like a real person and I love that.
  6. LA in the Bay: Lauren is just gorgeous.
  7. Shannon Hearts: I love Shannon's photos. She seems so down-to-earth!
  8. The Freckled Fox: Emily is an Idaho girl. Instant win.
  9. The Native Fox: Jennifer shares one outfit photo a day, and writes something simple—and it keeps me coming back day after day.
  10. Yes To Carrots: OK, so yes, I'm their "stylista," but I love staying current and seeing all the things they have happening with new products!
  11. Flattery: Breanne keeps it simple with her outfit posts and doesn't say too much, but to be honest, I love visiting her blog daily just to see her blog design... she switches it up often.
  12. When Green Grass was Yellow on Pictures: Nadine is so striking and her photos are incredible.
  13. Clumps of Mascara: Brittany's blog was the very first blog I ever read (I found her after googling "mascara review"—you know how I am about my eyelashes)! She was a huge inspiration for me when I began my blog and is so sweet... trust me, we've emailed a lot!

Things This Blogger Tells Her Husband...

funny blogger sayings

Things I [as a blogger] tell my husband:
  1. I'll be ready in five minutes.
  2. I'm just going to answer one email.
  3. This won't take any time at all.
  4. I just need one or two pictures.
  5. I'm just going to buy one ad spot next month.
  6. Maybe I should just throw in the towel on the whole blog thing...
  7. Typing up this draft will just take two seconds.
  8. I'm going to bring my camera today—just in case.
  9. 100 emails in my inbox? No, that doesn't stress me out!
  10. This new camera? Think of it like a blogging investment
  11. No, I'm not Instagramming a picture of my food!
  12. It's OK! I'll get up extra early to do it in the morning.
  13. I spent all day working. No blogging.
This is something that Daniel and I joke and laugh about often—because we all know I'm guilty of saying each of these at one time. It's all about balance—and thank goodness I have a patient, loving husband who's letting me find mine.

What do you tell your husband/family/friends about blogging? If you do Thursday 13 (any topic) this week, link it up in the comments!

What My Hairstyle Says

hairstyle

My hair is always doing something different... wavy, braided, curly, twisted, or all slicked back & out of the way. The style always seems to match my mood. In honor of my brand new blonde-to-brunette hair change, I've compiled a fun little list of what my hair is "saying" on a given day.

My hairstyle says:
  1. All down & Hollywood curly: This took a long time so I must be going somewhere where I want to look goooooooood.
  2. Loose, messy braid: Let's keep it low-maintenance & playful, this hairstyle is for the girls.
  3. French braid: Don't pay attention to me today.
  4. Tight ballerina bun: I mean business.
  5. Messy bun: My hair is really dirty, I hope no one notices...
  6. Hat: My hair is really really dirty. I knew I should have washed it.
  7. Ponytail: Feelin' sporty.
  8. Top knot: I am a blogger—take my photo. (Hence, the photo above... obviously).
  9. Pinned bump on top: I know my husband hates this, but it's so convenient.
  10. Wet so it can air-dry: I just don't care today.
  11. Side ponytail: Feelin' sporty & chic.
  12. Updo: Must. Be. Fancy. Updo. Means. Fancy.
  13. All down & straight: Finally... just me & natural.
What does your hair say about you? If you do Thursday 13 (any topic) this week, link it up in the comments!

Things I Don't Do

Top: Express // Scarf: Burlington Coat Factory // Glasses: c/o Firmoo

I don't:
  1. enjoy shopping.
  2. show up on time—ever.
  3. schedule blog posts—this is how I blog.
  4. ever regret eating a delicious bowl of macaroni and cheese—but if it's only sub-par? Double cardio day for sure.
  5. call Daniel "hubs." He's just Daniel.
  6. feel comfortable in big crowds.
  7. leave the house without making the bed.
  8. guilt Daniel into being in photos for this blog... it's just not his thing.
  9. love accessorizing. I'm a fan of very minimal jewelry.
  10. plan outfits around blog posts—which is why you see an awful lot of repeats.
  11. Instagram often. Oops.
  12. look forward to winter—spring, are you here yet?
  13. plan on making it an official link-up, but a revival of Thursday 13? I'm thinking about it. If you do a T13 post of your own, link up your post in the comments!

Even If You Know Me...

Even if you know me,
even if you're my best friend,
my sister, my parents,
or an every day reader...
there's always something new to learn about me.

I'm not perfect. Nor will I ever be...
and I do have some secrets.
Good secrets... they are just things that are, well... secret.
  1. I love to sing. Love love love to sing. But no one ever hears it.
  2. My all-time favorite band to sing along with is the Dixie Chicks.
  3. Each and every meal is a battle of portion sizes. I like to eat... a lot. My weight is always going up and it's a constant battle each day to maintain it. Almost everyday on my way to the gym I have to fight with myself not to pull through a drive-thru. Unfortunate? Yes. True? Yes (and I admit, I've given in once or twice before).
  4. One of my biggest pet peeves is watching people "booger roll" out their car window. My sister and I both are booger-roller police.
  5. I will never, ever stop missing my little baby Oso, who I had to give up when I ended my last relationship.
  6. I scare very easily. A few (ahem, the Rowe brothers) know this one. And they know I don't like being scared. I jump/scream/wave-my-hands-in-front-of-my-face-like-a-little-girl very, very easily.
  7. If I'm ever irritable, holding me close and showing me love calms me down so fast.
  8. I'm very self-conscious of my dancing skills... or lack thereof.
  9. I always tell people I don't want children. Heck, I tell myself that every day. But something keeps telling me otherwise.
  10. Having a bad eyelash day is way worse than a bad hair day. Blame it on the trich.
  11. Messy, dirty homes and things just left out (like shoes, purses, dishes, etc.) give me anxiety.
  12. Ever since I was rear-ended in May (for the 2nd time), I've been a very scared driver. I'm still defensive, trust me, but driving in traffic terrifies me. I get nervous on my commute home from work each day. The Flying WYE and Eagle Road in Boise just. scare. me. And Boise doesn't even have bad traffic!
  13. I feel like everyday my purpose becomes more clear. I'm here to share my story. It's not an exciting, thrilling, or rags to riches kind of story. But it's mine, and I'm here to share it.
And if you know me,
you probably know this,
the thing I love most of all...
is love. ♥

Family.

My brother, my mom, me, and my sister.
My dad and his girlfriend
One of Daniel's brothers, his mom, his dad, me and Daniel.

13 things about my family:
  1. I have an 18-year-old brother, and a 24-year-old sister.
  2. My dad was an only child, so I have no cousins or aunts and uncles on his end, but four aunts and uncles and countless cousins on my mom's side.
  3. I'm really close with my grandparents. Both sets of grandmas and grandpas live in Washington, and my favorite time of year is when I get to see them. I don't see them enough.
  4. Daniel's family is pictured above because, really, they're family. I love them. He has two brothers (one not pictured), and his mom and his dad are out-of-this-world cool. When I'm having a bad day, his dad always knows just the right thing to say, and his mom will let me cry on her shoulder until it's out of my system. I appreciate my relationship with them so much. And his youngest brother? He is already like a brother to me. We are best buds.
  5. My parents got divorced in 2006, during my freshman/sophomore years of college. I knew it was coming... but it was still a rough transition. My dad and I grew really close during the divorce.
  6. My immediate family is all over the place. My mom lives in the suburb next to me to the east. My dad lives about a mile and a half from me, but I only see him about once a week because he likes to travel. He spends every single weekend of the year in either McCall, Idaho (2 hours from Boise) or Palm Desert, California. He and his girlfriend love to golf, relax, and avoid the office. Obviously. My brother lives with my mom and is about to attend Boise State in the fall. I'm so excited that he's not leaving town. My sister lives in Seattle, Washington with her fiance... though I really wished they lived in Boise. Her fiance? He is beyond-awesome. He's also already like a brother. I mean, he reads my blog, he calls me often, and he even notices my hairstyles (what?! awesome!). I couldn't ask for a better almost-brother-in-law.
  7. My sister and I went to rival schools, me to Boise State University and her to University of Idaho, and when my brother picked Boise State, I am fairly certain it made my sister cringe with Vandal-blooded hatred. Me, on the other hand? Heck, I just hope he graduates... though seeing his closet grow with those familiar blue and orange hues won't disappoint me a bit.
  8. Growing up, we had a beagle named Tally and a miniature schnauzer named Scooter. Tally is still around, though she has no teeth. We love her. Scooter? Bless her. She was a scruffy stray and I loved her to pieces.
  9. Our family's last name is Norwegian. It is Driflot. It was originally Drivflaadt, but when my grandpa immigrated through Ellis Island, he came out a Driflot. My dad, my sister, my brother and I are the only Driflots. Ever. Stew-man better do us proud.
  10. Daniel's last name is much more simple... and switching from a Driflot to a Rowe will be a very welcome change... eventually.
  11. When we hang out with my dad and his girlfriend, we love to play cards. 10 Penny is our favorite. We also usually always play Trivial Pursuit on New Year's Eve. Sometimes, I win... actually, I think I only won once. And it was a grand victory.
  12. When we hang out with my mom, we play word games. Catchphrase, Scategories, Balderdash... anything where you can include inappropriate innuendo's seem to be the favorite. You can always tell my mom's answers in Balderdash because they are usually really dirty and very funny.
  13. Family is more important to me than anything. More important than my job, more important that my little blog, more important than any TV program, and more important than my own needs. I would do anything for my family.

Thursday 13: My Perfect Romantic Date

Source.

13 things that would make a perfect, romantic, casual day-long date:
  1. Waking up and making breakfast together (and cleaning up together).
  2. Hitting a quick workout at the gym, not necessarily together, but while occasionally sneaking winks and kisses.
  3. Enjoying a light lunch of summer rolls and lettuce wraps together at Fusion, a little Asian grill here in Boise.
  4. Swinging through TCBY, grabbing a swirl cone, and enjoying it under a shaded tree in a park.
  5. Possibly taking a light snooze together under that same tree.
  6. Driving to the beach (or river if we're in Boise), and hanging out in the sand and just relaxing.
  7. Grilling dinner together in the backyard.
  8. Going for a little evening stroll through our neighborhoods, on foot or bike, it really doesn't matter.
  9. Catching a couple fish together right as the sun goes down.
  10. Enjoying a Mason Jar Margarita (or one of my dad's homemade ones).
  11. Cuddling up to an episode of Castle, River Monsters, or anything just so that we could cuddle together.
  12. Watching the stars in a hot tub.
  13. Falling asleep in his arms.

Thursday 13: My Job

I get the question all the time,
"What do you do for a living?"

For THURSDAY 13 this week, I'm going to tell you 13 things about my job.
  1. I work for St. Luke's Health System (it's a hospital) in Boise, Idaho.
  2. I work in the Health Foundation. We are the philanthropy (fundraising) department of our hospital, which is a non-profit.
  3. Our office is located in a tiny, historic old house called the "Aldecoa House." It was built in the late 1800's, has been moved 3 times, is on the historic home registry for Boise, and the upstairs bathroom still has the original wallpaper, pink toilet, and pink tub (in which it is rumored that someone committed suicide in... not like that's creepy or anything).
  4. My title is "Development Assistant," but I am classified as a secretary, hence my name badge.
  5. My main responsibility at work is processing monetary donations that are received by the hospital. Whether it's a memorial gift, a grant, a just-because donation, or money from a fundraiser... it comes to my inbox and I handle it.
  6. I answer all incoming phone calls at our foundation. That wasn't originally part of my job, but once my supervisor realized I wasn't getting the interaction my bubbly personality craved, that soon became something that I was in charge of.
  7. Part of my job is reading the newspaper obituaries daily. It's probably my least favorite aspect of my job because I sometimes know people in the obits. That's always hard.
  8. I got my job because of a college internship that I had with a local diabetes clinic. After my internship, the diabetes center hired me. Less than a year later, the clinic merged with St. Luke's and my job was transferred to the Foundation.
  9. I have a gigantic A in my office that my mom gave me as a Christmas present. At first, I had NO IDEA what to do with it. When I moved to the Foundation, I knew immediately where the A was going.
  10. I have French doors that lead to a tiny balcony right off my office. I can't wait for summertime when I'm able to open the doors and feel the breeze as I do my work.
  11. I have 10 plants in my office. 4 succulents, 2 ivies, a money tree, a Christmas cactus, a parlor palm, and a lucky bamboo plant. I used to have more but I gave 3 to a coworker and took one home.
  12. When I'm having a hard day at work, I walk over to our gift shop and buy Lemonheads. They're 10 cents each and I buy as many as I can with the change I have in my purse. It's my little, sour indulgence.
  13. When I graduated college, my one goal was to work in the health promotion field at a hospital. I'm halfway to that goal, and not far from it at all.

So... that's what I do!
I hope you enjoy your Thursday!

Thursday 13: The Active Edition

It's Thursday and what does that mean? Thursday 13! Today's theme (linking up on All Things Lovely) is 13 Facts About You. I chose to tell you 13 facts about my ACTIVE self! Enjoy!

1. I have run 4 half marathons, all with my mom!

2. I enjoy riding a longboard. I own a Sector 9.

3. I ran track through high school and part of college. I got really sick before each race (yes, like throw-up... or... um... other stuff) because I was actually fairly decent and there was always so much pressure to win! See the photo below? That girl and I were both anchors for our college's 4x4 team. She was about to find out what my "kick" was. I always had a kick at the end of races.

4. My best race was the 800, but my favorite was being the anchor of the 4x400 relay.

5. In 2010 when I worked for Bodybuilding.com, I was on their softball team. I really only cared about my fun socks (pictured below) and hanging out with friends. When a ball came soaring at me in the infield, it terrified me.

6. I can leg press 530 pounds. My legs are definitely my strongest body part.

7. I wear crazy outfits when I work out. I am always wearing either wacky pants, neon tops, or super-bright shoes.

8. If you know cheerleading/tumble talk, I can do a back full. No, not standing. But a round-off backhandspring full? No biggie.

9. I have been golfing twice, and I am still not sure if I like it or not.

10. On average, I work out 5-6 days a week. 1 personal training session, 5 bootcamps, and sprint intervals after every workout. I also dabble in racquetball on occasion.

11. I'm super competitive when it comes to bootcamps at my gym. When it's the "go as hard as you can and when you finish it you're done" kind of workouts, my goal is to kill it. Those kind of workouts are my favorite.

12. Last year, I went from 150 pounds to 125 pounds in 3 months. I was working with a personal trainer and eating really well. Somehow, I gained all (plus some) of that weight back. I'm currently working on losing it again.

13. As I told you yesterday, I can do a back tuck (backflip). Want proof? Deal! (Video 1 has no sound--oops--and video 2 is in the dark... but has sound, my apologies in general for both).

Thursday 13: Favorite Places

Thursday 13 has arrived!
And guess what?
I'M NO LONGER IN CHARGE!!

I have "passed the torch" as Miranda says,
and now these three new ladies are your T13 hosts:

Chloe @ CJVZ Hearts You
Jennifer @ What's Mine is Yours
Miranda @ All Things Lovely

I hope to see you there each and every Thursday for their T13 link-up! ♥

This week, we are linking to Miranda, at All Things Lovely. The topic she, Jennifer and Chloe chose was favorite places/spaces. The cool thing about Thursday 13 is that you can take the prompt as you want it. I chose to pick my 13 favorite places to visit (or want to visit)! Here they are... and here's to vacation next week—this is just what I need to get myself in the mood for a sah-weet trip!

 Places I HAVE visited:
  1. Whidbey Island, Washington. Whidbey is my second home. I grew up (for 6 years, anyway) in Seattle. My grandparents live on Whidbey and it's our destination we would always travel to. I love beach walks, collecting agates, pesto pizza at the Village Pizzeria, and spending time with family!
  2. Maui, Hawai'i. Ka'anapali Beach is the most incredible place. I love Hawai'i... all things Hawai'i.
  3. Palm Desert, California. Daniel and I leave for the desert next Wednesday! The photos above are from that trip last November.
  4. McCall, Idaho. It's a 2-hour drive from Boise and the perfect little spot to get away to for the weekend. You can ski in the winter, boat in the summer, and enjoy all sorts of delicious food.
  5. Edmond, Oklahoma. I lived in Edmond for 4 years and I'm heading back in May for my best friend's wedding! I couldn't be more excited.
  6. Seattle, Washington. It addition to Whidbey, it truly is my second home.
  7. Norway! I went when I was in 3rd grade for an entire month with my grandma. Seeing where my family tree was established was such an amazing experience. The fjords, the ocean, the farms... it was all wonderful.
Places I WANT to visit:
  1. Fiji. I would love to stay in a little hut right on the beach. It would be the perfect getaway.
  2. The Oregon Coast. I really want to travel there. I've heard so many wonderful things about it and would love to take a visit. Compared to the others on this list... this one is actually one that could happen rather soon!
  3. Africa. I know that's rather general... but I would love to take a mission trip to Africa. That would be so fulfilling to be able to help others!
  4. Japan. Um... home of sushi? How could you not want to visit Japan?
  5. Australia. I would looove to take a safari trip. That would be too awesome.

Thursday 13: That Thing You Do.

 Source.

Today I'm making light of 13 characteristics of people who annoy me.

Scratch that.
Last time that I did a negative Thursday 13 post,
I got a LOT of negative feedback.
I've even had this post fully drafted for quite some time.
And I just deleted all of it.

So, this Thursday, instead of focusing on the negative,
we're going to FLIP IT and focus on the positive.
Remember how I said the theme this week is compassion?
I want my life theme to be compassion.

13 things that I love that people do:
  1. Adopt animals (I have adopted a dog from the humane society!)
  2. Donate items (I'm a frequent donor (and shopper) at the Goodwill and Youth Ranch.
  3. Clean up trash! Littering is one of my biggest pet peeves.
  4. Randomly treat the car behind them to coffee/lunch at the drive thru. I have never had it happen to me, but I've done it before!
  5. Give compliments and praise. I'm so quick to tell someone a compliment when I'm thinking good things about them. Why hold it in?
  6. Close the neighbor's garage door when they've forgotten to shut it. I've done this many times!
  7. Smile and say hello to strangers.
  8. Offer to help a friend move.
  9. Cook a meal for someone important to them.
  10. Lend a shoulder when all you need to do is cry it out.
  11. Tip extra for good service.
  12. Pray for others in their time of need.
  13. Say "I love you!"

Thursday 13: Thankful

I am thankful for:
  1. Daniel.
  2. My family.
  3. My Rowe family.
  4. My new Harvest family.
  5. My blogging family. I am so thankful for EACH of you! The wonderful ladies I interact with on a daily basis like Michele, Lindsay, Lot, Miranda, Kristen, Jenna, Jessica, Cat, Chloe, Lily, Eesh... just to name a few! Wow the list literally could go on and on. I love you ALL!
  6. My car, which gets me from point A to point B, and is a lot nicer and more wonderful than I could have ever imagined—or afforded.
  7. Books. Daniel and I are currently reading Heaven is For Real by Todd Burpo. We are taking turns reading it out loud to each other. We don't want to put it down. It's beautiful, inspiring, wonderful.
  8. Support from those around me (who feed me, eat my food, and dine out with me) as I try to figure out whether I'm gluten intolerant, lactose intolerant, possibly both, or if it's something different entirely. I know my tummy gives us all problems and you all are so great for understanding!
  9. The power of prayer. I learned the Monday after the day I gave my heart to Jesus, that Daniel's mom's kids (she's a 2nd and 3rd grade teacher) had been praying for me each and every day. It turns out, a LOT of people had been praying for me. I know that their prayers were answered that day!
  10. My job. I'm a development assistant at a Boise non-profit hospital. I know I take it for granted a lot of the time, and I tend to get a bit down about it... but, boy-oh boy—I have a job! My job gives me insurance! My job lets me work with fun ladies! My job makes a difference! My job is wonderful!
  11. Vacations! Daniel and I just booked a trip to Palm Desert in mid-April and I can't be more thankful that we have the financial ability to travel, but that our schedules will allow it, and that we get to go to a beautiful place and relax and explore!
  12. Spring blossoms. Spring is my 2nd favorite season. It's simply so beautiful and I just love driving or walking around and seeing all the cute little buds and blossoms on the trees. It really brightens my day.
  13. Mistakes. This one might sound weird, because you may think, "Why would I be thankful for something I have done wrong?" However, lately I'm learning how each of my mistakes has made me not only who I am, but a better person. I'm beginning to understand how God has a plan for each of us, and that plan includes our mistakes, whether we mean to make them or not. Each mistake, no matter how significant, has a purpose. Though we might not understand them at the moment, we can always know that God has a plan. That is beautiful, comforting, and makes each moment make even more sense.

Thursday 13: Hoping, Wishing, Loving, Praying

Photobucket

It's time for THURSDAY 13!
Unexpectedly, as you will read below, this Thursday 13 is not as peppy and bright as usual.
For that reason, my photo of the day is one of me holding a cutsie little 10-week old Cavalon (I think that's what it was). It's a Cavalier/Bishon mix.
He was adorable.
I almost stole him.
No, really I didn't...
but I sure did want to!

13 things I wish or pray for lately on a daily basis:

  1. To be valued at work. I won't say any more than that.
  2. For Bye Bye Beehive to be over... which it may be as early as tomorrow... who knows?
  3. To figure out whether I'm gluten-intolerant, lactose intolerant or both. My tummy is so frustrating each and every day. I am very tired of feeling bloated (and... yeah, all those other icky unmentionable symptoms) all the time.
  4. For my 18-year-old brother to make good, wise, smart decisions! ... those darned teenagers ...
  5. To be able to handle my stress better. It seems to be getting the best of me.
  6. To be able to take my negative thoughts (about others) and find what weaknesses I possess that encourage me to think poorly of others. It's just not fair for me to do that.
  7. To find my calling! (Full time blogger? I think so!!)
  8. To develop a better relationship with God.
  9. To forgive myself for some of my previously hurtful actions. I know they say "it takes time," but some wounds just seem like they'll never heal. It's the worst when you know it's all your fault and you have really, truly hurt people.
  10. For people to move on. There is almost nothing worse than not being supported by family in some of life's struggles. It's also hard to forgive yourself and move on when others won't let you.
  11. For someone who is very, very important to me to make a change. A big one. A cold-turkey, turn your life around, and in turn have a real, amazing relationship with your family kind of change. This is one that I really, truly pray for. And unfortunately, I don't ever think this prayer will be answered.
  12. To have the ability to get over my trichotillomania! It drives me bonkers.
  13. To prioritize my time and consolidate all 4 blogs into one... it's currently in the process but it's a slow one.
And... if you read all 13, I apologize. I didn't mean for today's T13 to be a pity party on me. There are just a lot of things that are weighing heavily on my heart lately, and sometimes a blog is the best place to vent.

xoxo
