A New Chapter

New Home

First comes love, then comes marriage... then comes a home—sorry, no baby carriage quite yet. This past weekend, Daniel and I moved into our new home, and we couldn't be happier. I feel like everything we've gone through—every trial, every test, every minute of waiting—has boiled down to this moment, and it's so beautiful.

To be honest, the process of buying our house was fairly simple. I've heard so many horror stories of people trying to buy houses and having it just be headache after headache. We are counting this is a huge blessing for us!

While wading through the piles of stuff and unpacking one box at a time, we're focused on de-cluttering and simplifying. I can't wait to have a house that's decorated just for us, with my very own kitchen to learn to cook (finally, right?), a garage to park my car in, a yard that's our own private sanctuary, and a place—honestly—to just be myself. That all may sound so materialistic, but if you have never had any of those things to call your own, when you work so hard to finally earn them, it's such an amazing feeling. Most importantly, I'm excited to build this house into our home. Our place to entertain, to share the love, to be with each other. And eventually, our place to raise a family of our own.

This new chapter is my favorite one I've written yet.

Congratulations! I totally know what you mean about having your own space to make a home. And we were fortunate too that our house buying experience was easy. So happy for you!

I'm SO happy for you. But honestly, so jealous too. Ryan and I are drowning in student debt. He has a great corp job, but I don't think we could get a house yet because of them. All of our friends and so many great blog ladies like yourself are buying houses and I can't help but feel jealous.

I just unloaded on you. SORRY.

Promise I'm super happy for you :) Can't wait to see some pictures of the inside!

Congrats on becoming homeowners! SOOOO exciting! I don't find that to be materialistic at all... It sounds like you just understand what a blessing it is to have a space to call your own!

Congrats! This is definitely an exciting time for you both.

I'll admit I'm currently very envious of you, because after getting everything settled from our move to Knoxville just two months ago, we are forced to move to another house over the weekend. Safety issue. Scott and I packed and moved all 1,800 sq. ft. of our belongings BY OURSELVES in 27 hours. It's been a trying five days, to say the least. But enough about that... I'm excited for you, friend!

Ohhh, my dear friend! This post, like many of yours do, made me smile so big!! I am so excited for your new home. Nothing that you said sounds materialistic - I am right there with you sister, and can't wait to have our own place. I know it's your private haven, but I do hope that you share some photos with us - I just know you'll decorate the home and yard beautifully :) Congrats!!! xo

Congrats! It's such a wonderful feeling to move into a new place together for the very first time. All of the headaches you may go through while packing and unpacking, cleaning, transferring things and trying to settle are soooo worth it to have your own "nest"! I don't think there's anything materialistic about enjoying having your own home.

Aww! Congratulations! I can't wait for that moment as well! I have been on my own, but I've always rented, so the day I buy and can paint and remodel and make my house exactly how I want it will be amazing! I completely understand this post and don't think you are materialistic in any way possible.

Cody Doll said...

I totally understand. I want my own place so bad. I'd be happy with an appt. Both James and I live with others and it's getting old. I want a place where we can be us. Where we can decorate as we choose. We can do what we want when we want. It's really not that bad but it does get weary sometime. It's all in time though. James and I are waiting for him to get his degree and then to teach. We are still trying to figure out where to live too. Sigh. haha.
I can't wait to see your house and how you decorate it for the holidays and all the events you plan. I am so excited for you!! =]

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Elisabeth! We are very, very excited as well. There's never been a feeling like this!

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Friend! Now you'll have to come up for a visit!! YESSSS

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Rachel. It's a stage I never thought we'd reach. I just can't even believe it's here!

Annelise Rowe said...

I've never rented... I imagine that's a headache in itself!

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Pamela. You're so sweet... I know, I didn't show much. Didn't want everyone in Idaho (and all over) to know just exactly where we lived :)

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Niki. I pretty much live to organize, so I'm having a blast! The physical moving of it all was tough though. Don't know how people with entire homes to move do it!

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Carly! I can't wait to show them. I imagine it will be over a long period of time, but it will be so fun to do.

Annelise Rowe said...

We are both blessed. Thanks for all your fun talks & emails, Hannah!

Annelise Rowe said...

Hey Sammantha! I know what you mean. A year ago, I could have SWORN we'd be stuck in our same situation for eons. I just waited and waited. Keep working so hard, sounds like you guys are chipping away at it... it will happen before you know it!

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Cynthia! I didn't want to write about it a lot before we actually bought it an moved in, because you just never know what will happen. So this was so exciting for us to finally share!!

Annelise Rowe said...

Thank you so much. I am so glad you understand. We are so grateful for everything :)

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Rachel! I've thought about that quite a bit. I see SO MANY "pinterest worthy" places to live all over, and I just don't even plan on making a space like that. I want a place where I can lounge and have parties and not have a particular "spot" for everything. So I'm excited to show how we do end up decorating. It won't be chic or classic or anything. It will be a hodge-podge of us!

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Jenn! I agree with you. It's the BEST time right now. Just so much going on!

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Shannon! Our couch/table won't be here for a month, and after they come it will be fun to do a little home update!

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Krysten! We are so so so excited. Thank you a bunch!

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Meghan! This is so big for us... just one more little part to look back on in the memory books. Finally! :)

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Kelly! I think that's one of the parts I'm looking forward to the most. We have almost all the furniture, so once everything is set up we'll go out and find some art/cool pieces. That's the most fun part! :)

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Yuli!! I hope you're enjoying your new home, too!

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Laura. We are already enjoying it and taking it step by step. My goal tonight is finishing our bedroom! Yay!

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Charlotte! We are so excited!

Annelise Rowe said...

Oh my gosh, so close for you guys! It's going to go quick quick quick! Thanks!

Annelise Rowe said...

Yes, that's exactly it!! Thank you so much, Alison :)

Annelise Rowe said...

Oh, I'm drinking it in from a gallon-sized jug. You KNEW how much this meant to us!! Thanks for being there!

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Lauren! I'm happy on the inside, outside... EVERYWHERE!! Can't wait for more updates in the future :)

Annelise Rowe said...

WHAT??!! Out of your woodsy outdoorsy giant house? What happened? Are you OK?

Annelise Rowe said...

Kym, thank you so much! Ha, I feel so bad because I'm totally not a pinterest-worthy decorator. I already know I can't compete... but I will show you a livable home that is all ours! :) So exciting!

Annelise Rowe said...

Aw, thanks Emily!! We are totally the happiest birds on the planet right now :)

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Martha!! I know what you mean about the unpacking and transferring. I've already moved the kitchen around a few times!! It's all fun though :) thank goodness

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Cori! We are so excited. It's been a bunch of fun so far!

Annelise Rowe said...

Thank you thank you thank you! I appreciate you being here... truly!

Annelise Rowe said...

Amen, sister! We are so excited to open our home to our church family and serve and minister there. That's what we're looking forward to :)

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks Karly!! It is SO very exciting. I've never been this excited, I don't think! It's like we're getting married all over again :)

Annelise Rowe said...

Thank you Sarah. So glad you understand. We just began the painting today... so thrilling to transform it to how we want it to be!

Annelise Rowe said...

Thanks so much, Cody. Oh, you just made me think... Christmas in my own house... wow I can't wait for that! Best time of year!

Keep working away. You're making and taking some great steps to get to where you want to be. It will happen faster than you think!

Cody Doll said...

Your welcome. And right? I would love to decorate for everything. Just think of all that cooking you can do now!

I know I am. It's just hard because I feel like it's been soooo long. Lucky, I can see the end.

Alesha Sinks said...

It is SO fun! At least, it has been for my husband and I. And for you guys, this is finally your own space! AMAZING! Enjoy it thoroughly! <3

I'm so excited for y'all! You're going to absolutely LOVE having your own home! It's a wonderful feeling knowing you have a special place that is yours (and Daniels), a place that you can escape to and feel free. We bought our first house a little over a year ago and we're just now starting to decorate but it's a great feeling nonetheless. So happy for y'all - congratulations!

Annelise Rowe said...

Thank you so much! I can see us being in the same boat... we are trying to finish furnishing it at the moment, with no decorating plans (or ideas) quite yet. It's still so fun though!
