THE FLOWERS

Photos: c/o Andy Petek // Flower bouquets: c/o Rustic Living

Wedding Week & flowers. One of my favorite little details about our wedding.

When it comes to fresh-cut flowers, I'll be honest—I'm usually not a fan. I'd rather have them planted in my garden than in a vase in the kitchen. I've never been the sentimental type to dry out my flowers and save them for ever and ever. It's just not my thing. I knew I wanted some kind of silk or fabric flowers for the wedding, and after looking all over Pinterest for a DIY project, I just couldn't find anything that really said "me." Read: "I'm not a DIY-er. Ever."

That was the moment that I reached out to Ashley. She is the mastermind behind Rustic Living, an Idaho-based shop that specializes in handmade decor and rustic chic wedding items. Not only is Ashley everywhere all over the web, but she also lives in my hometown, and we love to chat over a hot chocolate or two every now and then. For her to make my flowers was a very, very special treat. Ashley didn't have any silk or fabric floral bouquets in her shop when I approached her, but because of all her other adorable wedding items, I just threw it out there to see if she'd be interested. To my surprise, flowers are something she has been wanting to add to her shop's products, so I was the ideal test-run bride.

When we discussed my flowers, I told her our wedding colors and then I said just go for it. I'm really not picky when it comes to flowers. I know what quality and amazing work Ashley does, and I put my trust in her. The finished product was beyond what I had ever hoped for. I loved my shabby, feminine bouquet, and I adored the simplicity of my bridesmaids' single-flower design. They were perfect.

If you find yourself looking for something a little less traditional when it comes to flowers, and if you want to work with the sweetest girl on the planet, visit Ashley at Rustic Living. Now all we need is to convince her to start selling these in her shop!

Such a great idea! We made our own bouquets the night before the wedding. I've kept and dried 3 roses.
