The Valley of Fire

Valley of Fire State Park

The day we left Palm Desert to make our two-day drive home to Idaho, we stopped in Nevada at the Valley of Fire State Park. When Daniel took the turn to the park, I had no idea where he was taking me. He said, "Just wait... you're going to love it." And love it I did.

We explored the red rock formations, searched for lizards (and spotted so many), and hiked all over the park. It was beautiful and I'm so glad Daniel took the little 2 1/2 hour detour so we could go experience a new place together!

Throughout our whole vacation, we experienced 5-parks, hiked for hours and hours, took way too many pictures, ate the most delicious food, enjoyed the best donuts from the most hole-in-the-wall place in 29 Palms, caught basking rays at the pool, and even got to hit the gym a couple times. Oh, and I can't forget to mention that I introduced Daniel to his very first In-N-Out experience—at which he dined on a hamburger and I loaded up on a Double Double and cheese fries. Heck, when you only have it once a year, the Double Double is the only way to go.

All in all? What a trip!

Pretty bright pink flower... Is it a hedgehog cactus? I tried to look it up... I love the color! Great pics.

Such fun! We took our 3 kiddos hiking in the Valley of Fire over spring break too-- they loved it! What a great place to explore and let them CLIMB! And so beautiful. And yes, if you only come to California once a year, a Double-Double is the only way to go. I would add a chocolate milk shake to that :)

What a fantastic trip! My family took a two and a half week trip touring the west when I was 12, but I spent the majority of it sleeping. (When we got home, I discovered that I'd grown two inches. Go figure!) I've always wished I could go back and do it again and actually appreciate it this time. Thanks for sharing!

Aw man, I don't know what kind of cactus it is either! I looked it up too and it looks like you're right... hedgehog!

Oh man... the shake! I think the only reason I didn't is because we hit up Dairy Queen after that... so bad, huh? So bad, but sooooo good!

And I bet the VoF is so fun for kids! What a great adventure!

Ha! I love that. I should have asked what everyone else's favorites were, too! Thank you, Jill. That gave me (and Daniel) a smile!

Yes! Snuggling is totally the opportune wording there! And thank you for the nice words about our trip. It was definitely a go-go-go vacation, but we wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

I wish they'd get one in Idaho! That would be ah-mazing!

Annelise Rowe said...

Ha! There are way more photos of the lizards than of us! Oops!

Whoa! Sounds like you needed all the sleep you can get. And sometimes, that's a great way to spend a vacation!
