Always a Cheerleader

Today for Just Because Friday, I'm flashing back to my early BSU cheer days.
I know I've told you before that I used to be a Boise State cheerleader,
but I don't know if I ever told you how awesome my first year on the team was.

It was the 2006-2007 school year.
Boise State was really good that year.
We had Derek Schouman, Ian Johnson, Drisan James, and Jared Zabransky.
You may remember it as the year the Broncos won the Fiesta Bowl.

Now that was an experience.
Standing on that sideline in Arizona,
I cried, I laughed, and I jumped up and down a lot.
I even busted out some Angels in the Outfield wing-arms, much to the dismay of my teammates.
But I'm pretty sure those angels heard me, because we won that day.
And no—for the zillionth time, it wasn't me who got engaged that day.
Though, had it have been me, I'm sure you would have known about it by now.

We also won Nationals that year.
Epic.
The first Nationals win for the Boise State cheer team.
They've gone on to win so many more titles since.

Oh—and if you're wondering, in the photo of the girls tumbling,
can you spot me?
I'm the one in the mid-back-flip in the back.
Just hanging out mid-air. No big.

This is great! Love all the pictures! I used to be a cheerleader too (but only when I was in grade school). Haha. For a grade school cheerleading squad though, we were pretty great. Throwing people up in the air and what not. What a fun experience for you though!

I am a Nebraska Cornhusker fan through and through! I LOVE football!

But I wanted to say... watching the Fiesta Bowl and Boise State triumphing in the end... EPIC!

Ever since then, Boise State has been my second favorite team - love them to pieces and can't wait to see what they do this next season!

How amazing to have seen that game in person, on the sidelines!

I remember this game very vividly! I am a huge OU fan...and this was a heartbreaking loss! I remember watching the end of this game in bed...and I remember being tricked by the Statue of Liberty play just as much as the players were...I never saw it until it was over! What a game!

How fun! We don't really have all that much team pride in California (and definitely not at my little liberal arts school), but I always thought it would be fun to love your school so much. Thanks for sharing my dear!

I love that tumbling pic! I cheered my whole life and then chose to go away from a college that offered me a cheer scholarship...such a regret in my life! I love Boise State and their blue field too! :)
